Resume Writing for Older Workers

Not all retirees mind working. Some work to bring in a little extra money. Some work simply for the healthcare benefits. Others work because they actually like the act of getting out of the house and socializing. And, you may be like me, semiretired.  Resume writing is not a fun task, but if you’re going to find a job, you need to do it.

I gave some tips for resume writing in Part II of my blog, The Unexpected Retirement. If you want to build your own resume remember the following:

• List 10 years of experience, no more than that
• Your resume needs to reflect what exactly you want to do. See my example below, and how I list “Account Manager” at the top.
• Skills and competencies are important. If you’ve been out of the workforce for a while, you may need to get creative with this part.

If needed, I can build you the perfect resume so that you are confident when heading out for that next job.   Resume writing rate is $50.00 which covers a  phone call or email exchange with you to review your relevant job experience, which is followed by the actual preparation of your targeted resume. When I say “targeted”, I mean that if you are looking for a part time cashier job, your resume will be reflective of that. While I can prepare a general resume, in today’s times it is not recommended. Employers want to see that you want their job, not any old job.
